Bullet-proof vest has saved an Albany Police officer from a knife attack at a nursing home.

The officer said he was lucky when a man attacked him with a steak knife inside a crowded room at Palmyra Nursing Home on Thursday in Albany. He and a fellow officer were able to arrest the man without anyone but the assailant suffering any injury.

Police had been called to the nursing home to remove an unwanted guest. Police said without warning, 47-year-old Marion Sweet pulled a steak knife from his pocket and attacked Windom.

Sweet scuffed his knees as he fought officers putting him in the patrol car. Officers later discovere


Safariland retools body armor models — Bullet Proof Vest

With the expection of increased threats to law enforcement and security officers in the next 10 years, Jacksonville-based Safariland, a branch of BAE Systems, said it has re-tooled its body armor models to face it.

The changes are part of a voluntary program from the National Institute of Justice to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor to improve performance so that officers receive adequate protection. Body armor must now be able to defend against higher-caliber ammunition to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons.

About Moscow Anti-Riot Police Use Violence to Break Up Slavic Gay Pride March

Moscow police have used what the watching media describe as violent and oppressive tactics to break-up the peaceful Slavic Gay Price march in the city.

The march, staged a few hours ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest final which is beamed around the world, had been outlawed by Moscow city authorities.

But permission had been given for ant-gay counter-demonstrations by far right ultra-nationalists.

Between 35 and 40 Russian LGBT activists have been arrested, including British human rights activist Peter Tatchell and Chicago LGBT activist Andy Thayer. Pride organiser Nikolai Alekseev was held down by 5 fully armed riot
